Community Engagement Specialist

  • Reports To:  Education Director
  • Status:  30 hours week
  • Salary:  $16.07/hr with generous benefits

Our progressive social service agency seeks a Community Engagement Specialist who will work independently and as part of our education team. The Community Engagement Specialist will manage all aspects of volunteer engagement for the Advocacy Center, including recruitment, training coordination, management and support of volunteers on the 24 hour hotline, volunteer trainers with the Enough Abuse Tompkins program and volunteers that provide general agency support. Additionally, this position will be responsible for agency outreach including participation at community tabling events, maintenance of agency social media presence and newsletter as well as community building with organizations and individuals interested in supporting the work of the Advocacy Center.

The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County, located in Ithaca, NY,  is an organization whose roots are based in feminism, social change, and victim rights. We have been providing services to survivors of domestic violence since 1977, child sexual abuse since 1982 and adult sexual assault since 2003.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, public speaking and writing skills
  • Ability to network and build relationships within the community
  • Strong planning, organizational, time management, and administrative skills
  • Experience working with volunteers, ideally in a non-profit setting
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team in a flexible, evolving environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Sensitivity to the impact of sexual and domestic violence in diverse and marginalized communities and the ability to articulate these concerns in a sensitive and respectful manner

  • Reliable transportation & valid drivers license

Adult Sexual Assault Counselor/Advocate

  • Status:  Full Time
  • Salary:  $15.79/hr with generous benefits

  • RESIDENTIAL REQUIREMENT:  must live within 30-minute drive of Cayuga Medical Center

Our progressive social service agency seeks a Counselor-Advocate  who will  provide support and advocacy services to survivors of adult sexual assault within the community and on the three college campuses in Tompkins County. The Adult Sexual Assault Counselor/Advocate will be the primary responder to victims of intimate partner violence on the college campuses. The person in this position will work independently and as part of our client services team, and will work collaboratively with law enforcement, prosecutors, campus partners, medical personnel and others on behalf of the sexual assault survivor. The Counselor-Advocate will accompany survivors to hospital-based sexual assault exams, to meetings with law enforcement, prosecutors, Title IX investigators and to court/judicial hearings.

The Counselor-Advocate will attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings with law enforcement, prosecutors, probation, child protection; will attend monthly meetings of Sex Offense Court; and

will provide support and advocacy services to youth and adult victims of child sexual abuse and domestic violence as needed and while on call.This position provides valuable service to vulnerable populations.

  • Flexible schedule  – must be able to work some after-hours evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Reliable car, valid NYS license and clean driving record

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual and/or people of color strongly encouraged to apply
  • Knowledge of rape/sexual assault issues, campus and criminal response system and/or experience working with sexual assault victims/survivors strongly desired
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, child sexual abuse issues and community & legal systems strongly desired
  • Group facilitation experience

Our progressive social service agency seeks a Domestic Violence Shelter Counselor-Advocate, who will work independently and as part of our client services team. This position will provide support and advocacy services primarily to residents in our nine-bed safe house as well as to non-residential domestic violence clients.  This position provides valuable service to vulnerable populations.  The person in this position will work at our safe house four days during the M-F work week and one weekend day.

Our progressive social service agency seeks a Campus Educator who will work independently and as part of our education team. The person in this position will provide education and support on issues of sexual assault, stalking and domestic/dating violence on campus to students and other members of the college community at Ithaca College, Cornell University and Tompkins Cortland Community College. She or he will serve as the agency representative on the TC3 Violence Prevention subcommittee and IC’s Title IX programming committee; attend SHARE Coalition meetings at Cornell and any other related committees as directed by the Education Director, and coordinate campus involvement in events and activities for Sexual Assault Awareness Month including Take Back the Night and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
