Computer Safety - How to cover your tracks on the web

The Internet can be a great resource, but it can also be a danger.  Your computer records everything you do, and it can be hard to completely erase.  If you are concerned that your partner is monitoring your computer use, they probably are.  It does not take special skills or programs for a person to find out your activities online.

The best way to protect yourself is by not using your home computer or any computer that your abuser uses.  This may mean going to a public library, using a trusted friend or family member’s computer or going to an Internet Café.

If you do use your computer at home there are some steps you can take to increase your safety, but remember these are NOT 100% effective!  Click on the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence website www.ncadv.org/protectyourself/InternetSafety_121.html to learn more.
